This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the actions taken by Junk Rubbish Waste to prevent modern slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. Junk Rubbish Waste is committed to operating ethically, transparently, and with integrity in all our business relationships, and to implementing effective systems and controls to safeguard people from exploitation.
Junk Rubbish Waste has a clear zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly work with any organisation, contractor, or individual that is involved in, condones, or turns a blind eye to any form of modern slavery. This principle applies to all aspects of our business, including waste collection, sorting, transportation, and disposal services.
All employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers are expected to act in accordance with our values and to uphold the highest standards of conduct. Any breach of this policy is treated as a serious matter and may result in termination of employment, cancellation of contracts, or referral to law enforcement where appropriate.
Our supply chain includes providers of vehicles, equipment, personal protective equipment, fuel, facilities management, and subcontracted waste services. We recognise that some areas of the waste and recycling sector can be vulnerable to labour exploitation, particularly where low-skilled or temporary labour is used.
We require our suppliers and subcontractors to confirm that they comply with all relevant labour, employment, and human rights laws. Our standard procurement documentation includes obligations relating to the prevention of modern slavery, and we reserve the right to request evidence of compliance at any time. We expect suppliers to adopt similar standards within their own supply chains.
Junk Rubbish Waste undertakes proportionate due diligence on new and existing suppliers, with a focus on those operating in higher-risk categories such as labour provision and subcontracted services. This due diligence may include requesting information on recruitment practices, right to work checks, wage records, and policies relating to labour standards.
We carry out periodic supplier audits, which may be desk-based or conducted on-site. These audits are designed to assess compliance with contractual commitments, including those related to modern slavery. Where non-conformances are identified, we will work with suppliers to agree corrective action plans and timelines. In serious or repeated cases of non-compliance, we may suspend or terminate the business relationship.
We promote awareness of modern slavery risks among our employees through training, internal communications, and clear policies. Our objective is to ensure that all staff understand the signs of modern slavery, know how to report concerns, and feel confident that their reports will be taken seriously.
Concerns about potential modern slavery, whether within our operations or in our supply chain, can be raised through any of the following channels: line managers, senior management, the human resources team, or an internal whistleblowing route. Reports can be made confidentially, and we do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
Overall responsibility for our modern slavery approach rests with the senior leadership of Junk Rubbish Waste. Management is accountable for ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures, and controls are in place and effectively implemented across all business units.
This statement and the measures described within it are reviewed annually to ensure they remain effective and relevant. As part of the review, we assess the evolving risk landscape within the waste sector, the findings from supplier audits, any reported concerns, and feedback from stakeholders. Where necessary, we update our processes, training, and contractual terms to further strengthen our defences against modern slavery and human trafficking.
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement has been approved by the leadership of Junk Rubbish Waste and applies to the current financial year. We remain committed to continuous improvement and to playing our part in eradicating modern slavery in all its forms.
